This is a collaborative project between me and a team of dancers. Ever experienced a visit to a house museum, there will be limitations to interaction and the information that exists in the space. There are things that are not possible in the physical space that can be possible in the virtual space. This project utilizes the lightweight and ultra-portable all-in-one VR headset, the Oculus Quest. There are limitations to how much the hardware can process, we set out as a group to explore its capabilities.  

Scene Experience 

The project proposal itself seeks to explore 3 – 4 rooms that represent a movie produced or directed by Steven Spielberg. For this early test, we wanted to explore the movie Memoirs of a Geisha which was produced by Steven Spielberg. The dancers in the team thought it be interesting to experience the snow dance scene from the movie. In this VR experience, you will follow in the steps of the main character Suzuka Ohgo in one of the most iconic performance scenes.

The experience starts off in the main lobby of the VR museum with the different room options. The currently only available one is the Memoirs of a Geisha room. When entering, the scene begins as soon as you pick up the umbrella in the room. The sequence of interactions is synced with the scene to bring about engagement and immersion. Clips from the scene that are synced up also appear in the VR environment.
